Hard Work and Sacrifice

There are no phones, no lights, no motorcars — not a single luxury. Some might call it primitive. We call it intentional. Like Robinson Crusoe, we've found that everything we truly need is already here.

A Day in Lancaster County

4:30 AM Milking cows. The day begins in the barn, as it has for three hundred years. The lantern light is enough. 🐄
5:00 AM Jebediah feeds the chickens and Jacob plows the fields. Every member of the family contributes — there are no idle hands here. 🌾
Afternoon Hitching up the buggy, churning lots of butter. The afternoon work is steady and purposeful — we've churned butter once or twice, you might say. 🧈
Monday Raised a barn. Soon we'll raise another. The whole community turns out — there's no work too big when everyone shares the load. 🏗

When the Chores Are Done

When the day's labor is finished and the animals are settled, the community gathers. There are no screens to retreat to, no notifications pulling us apart. Instead, we sit together — families and neighbors, sharing meals, telling stories, and keeping alive the traditions that have sustained us since the 1700s.

It is a quiet kind of joy. The kind that comes from knowing your place in the world, and being content with it.
