Visitor Etiquette — Lancaster County Amish Community

We welcome visitors to Lancaster County, but we ask for mutual respect. We ain't really quaint — we're just technologically impaired. If you come to visit, you might be bored to tears. We haven't even paid the phone bill in 300 years. But this life is rich in ways that don't show up on a screen.

You'll find no cops or traffic lights here. Our community governs itself through faith, accountability, and love. You'd probably think it bites — but we wouldn't trade it for anything.

Do not photograph community members without permission
Do not treat people as curiosities or photo opportunities
Understand that what may seem primitive is deeply intentional
No phones, no electric lights, no motorcars — not a single modern luxury — and that's by design
Think of it less as deprivation and more as freedom
